Kents Cavern, Devon

Kents Cavern is a spectacular natural cave and Britain's oldest Prehistoric home located in the English Riviera Global Geopark Devon. Records show the mysteries of the caves have been enticing explorers to venture into their depths since 1571. However, archaeological evidence and research reveals that humans and animals have been residing and visiting the caves for hundreds of thousands of years.
With its long history dating back from earliest cave men to modern day times, Kents Cavern has seen an extreme variety of purposes for which it has been used. With all it's eerie tales from its smuggling era it has long been rumoured to be haunted, this was one investigation we could not miss.
On this investigation our team consisted of just 3 out of our regular 6 investigators and a guest investigator who we invited along, for his 40th Birthday.
With are guided tour and health and safety brief out of the way it was "lights out and show time".
We started our investigation about at 11pm and made our way to the back of the cavern to a part known as the "Bear's Den". We have investigated many locations in what we thought was pitch black but this location was litterally like walking into the abyss. When we reached the Bears Den we started out with some EVP work and to be honest we thought are voices would echo, but nothing of the sort the acoustics within the cavern where very dampened, no echoes at all. Although another problem was apparent, dripping water from the arch like roof of the cave did make our EVP session more challenging. We tried variuos techniques at this particular area, but to no avail so after about an hour we decided to relocate to another part of the cavern.
Making our way through a labyrinth of twists and turn we arrived at our 2nd location known as the "Cave of Inscriptions". We decided to try and make contact with our Dowsing rods and to be honest this technique which was performed by our guest produced some great results. If the Dowsing rods are to be believed we had apparently made contact with a small male child with the initials BC. We asked it to affect us in some way and 2 members felt extremely cold around their waists, forearms and upto their elbows with the feeling of static electricity. This happened twice when asked of it.
Once again we relocated to a different part of the cavern, this time to the "Great Chamber". We had noticed there was no dripping water at this location so we resumed with our EVP session and Dowsing rods combined. Again if the Dowing rods are to be believed, this time we made contact with a male called "Efan Keene" apparently from Wales and moved down to Devon to work as a miner in the caves in 1907. He died in 1915 of a lung disease at the age of 21. We asked him various yes or no questions with outstanding results, but question about how he moves between locations i.e. do you walk? the answer was no and after much deliberation his answer was he did'nt know exactly how, just that he could do it. We have since researched all of our evidence and could not find any factual records referring to a Efan Keene or any details of his passing. During this location our guest said he was felling extremely cold at one point so one of our other investigators took some digital photos and he appears to be surrounded by a black mass which soon dissapeared. (see gallery)
Our final location was the "Stalactite and Stalagmite Formations", at this location we unscrewed the back of a torch so that the slightest of touches would turn it on. With the torch positioned several feet away from anybody, placed on a rock we started to call out to make contact with any spirits. With that, apparently Efan turned again up. So we asked if he could turn on the torch by just touching it and with that it flickered and turned on. We then asked for it to be turned off and again it did, this happen twice for us when we asked it to very interesting. With the dawn fast approaching we decided to end our investigation around 5am and made our way out of this underground labyrinth.
All in all the investigation of Kents Cavern, was very exciting for the State Of Panic team to investigate. We would recommend this fabulous location for any one to investigate, if and when the opportunity arises.
